What Is Florida Guardianship?

9-2-1018 - October is Florida Guardianship Month, in recognition of the important work Florida’s court-appointed guardians do to protect incapacitated individuals who have no one else to look after them. In recent years Florida has been leading the way in setting higher standards for guardians to ensure the most vulnerable among us get the care they need and deserve. In October, the radio show, “Oh My God I’m Getting Older And So Is My Mom” will feature several shows on the topic of Florida guardianship. Host Scott Greenberg is treasurer of  the National Guardianship Association, vice president of the Florida Guardianship Association, and owner of ComForCare Senior Services, which provides home care from Boca Raton through Jupiter.

On October 8, Attorney Joseph Karp will be the featured guest. He will discuss legal planning that can avoid the need for court-ordered guardianship, among other topics.

On October 15, an actual court-appointed guardian will talk about how Florida guardians are appointed and the services they perform day-to-day. Representatives of the Florida Guardianship Association and the National Guardianship Association will discuss their educational efforts and reforms.

Tune in to "Oh My God I’m Getting Older And So Is My Mom" on October 8 and 15.

The show airs at 6 p.m. on 95.9FM, or 106.9FM on the Treasure Coast. It simulcasts live on www.trueoldiesfla.com so anyone outside our local area can tune in.
