Open Enrollment October 15 - December 7

9-8-2017 - Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15, 2017 and ends December 7, 2017. During this time period Medicare beneficiaries may:

  • Change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan.

  • Change from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare.

  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another Medicare Advantage Plan.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan that doesn't offer drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan that offers drug coverage.

  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan that offers drug coverage to a Medicare Advantage Plan that doesn't offer drug coverage.

  • Join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

  • Switch from one Medicare drug plan to another Medicare drug plan.

  • Drop Medicare prescription drug coverage completely.

Plans should be sending current enrollees an Annual Notice of Change or Evidence of Coverage. These notices alert you to any changes in your plan's benefits, costs and rules for 2018.

Determine if the drugs you need are covered and if your pharmacy is in the preferred network. Also research whether your doctors, including specialists, are on your plan. The Medicare Rights Center recommends that after you review the literature you've received and done online research, you phone any plan you are thinking of joining (or remaining in) to confirm your understanding. Write down the details of the conversation and who you spoke to, to protect yourself if you receive what turns out to be misinformation.

Any changes you elect will go into effect January 1, 2018.
