2016 Medicare Premiums, Deductibles

1-15-2016 -Several key Medicare numbers have changed in 2016.

  • Part A Deductible: $1288 (was $1260)
  • Hospital Stay Co-Payment, Days 61 - 90: $322 per day (was $315)
  • Hospital Stay Co-Payment, Days 91 and beyond: $644 per day (was $630)
  • Part B Deductible: $166 (was $147)
  • Basic Part B  Premium: $104.90 (unchanged)  
  • Part B Premium for those not held harmless: $121.80  (among those not held harmless are those enrolled in Medicare but not yet receiving Social Security, and seniors earning more than $85,000 annually) 
  • Part B Premiums for Higher-Income Beneficiaries*+:

Individuals with annual income between $85,000 and $107,000 and married couples with incomes between $170,000 and $214,000: $170.50 (was $146.90)

Individuals with annual income between $107,000 and $160,000 and married couples with incomes between $214,000 and $320,000: $243.60 (was $209.80)

Individuals with annual income between $116,000 and $214,000 and married couples with incomes between $320,000 and $428,000: $316.70 (was $272.70)

Individuals with annual income over $214,000 and married couples with incomes over $428,000: $389.80 (was 335.70)

*numbers are diffferent for married spouses who file separately.

+based on 2014 income

  • Skilled Nursing Facility Co-Payment, days 21-100: $161/day (was $157.50).  Medicare coverage ends after day 100.
