Florida Alzheimer's Report released

3-18-2011 The 2011 Florida fact sheet on Alzheimer's Disease has just been released by the Alzheimer's Association. The statistics are grim and underscore the need for both alternative funding sources and of course, hoped-through medical breakthroughs. Some key points:

  • In 2010, there were nearly half a million Florida residents ages 65 and up with Alzheimer's Disease. This is a 25% increase from the year 2000.
  • Unpaid caregivers numbered just under one million. They contributed nearly 1 TRILLION hours of unpaid caregiving time.
  • By 2020, the incidence of Alzheimer's Disease in our state is expected to increase by 42%.
