New free preventive services for Medicare recipients

1-26-2011 Thanks to the recently passed health reform law, Medicare recipients may now receive certain preventive services absolutely free of charge. There are no longer co-pays, co-insurance or deductibles for services like screenings for colon cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or breast cancer. (Note: Some private Medicare plans - so called Medicare Advantage Plans - may still charge for these services.)

Also, those enrolled in Medicare Part B plans will not have to pay anything for an annual wellness visit. And if you are new to Medicare, you can receive your new "Welcome to Medicare" wellness visit free of charge, so long as you have your appointment within 12 months of enrollment. More information on the new free Medicare services.
